Towards Seniority along with India

I was born few years before India became independent or during 'Second World War'  years. It may not be far from truth to assume that I shared to some extent,  few of the tribulations of those turbulent and disturbed years. Frankly speaking, I hardly remember anything about Independence day. Yet I do remember a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi Kept on a table in the front yard of our house with a garland around it for one or two weeks. There were clear signs everywhere of impending riots and chaos. This was avoided by the prompt steps taken by then Municipal Commissioner of Pune city, Mr. S.G.Barve, who had brought in armoured vehicles from nearby military command on the city streets and never allowed the situation to go out of hand.
