"Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song used as a theme for the little-known prison film, Unchained. This week we feature a version of this song performed by “The Righteous Brothers” a musical duo of Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley. This song climbed to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1965 and reached number 14 in the UK in 1965. It was also used in the box office blockbuster film Ghost in 1990.

Benjamin Earl King, an American soul and R&B (Rhythm and blues) singer, professionally known by his pseudonym Ben E. King, died last week at the age of 76. He was best known by his 1961 hit song "Stand by Me."

The song hit US Top 10 hit in 1961 and also became number one hit in the UK in 1987, and #25 on the RIAA's list of Songs of the Century. In 2015, King's original version was inducted into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

This week's song "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" is a song co-written and performed by Otis Redding just days before his death in a plane crash. The song went on to become the first posthumous single to top the charts in the US. It charted at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.Billboard ranked the record as the No. 4 song for 1968. It went on to gain success in countries across the world, and sold more than four million copies worldwide. It won two Grammy Awards: Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

Otis Ray Redding, Jr. ( 1941 – 1967) was an American singer-songwriter, record producer, arranger and talent scout. He is considered one of the greatest singers in the history of American popular music and a seminal artist in soul and rhythm and blues.

"Sweet Caroline" is a soft rock song, that was performed by American artist Neil Diamond and was officially released on September 16th, 1969, as a single. The song reached #4 on the Billboard chart and eventually went platinum for sales of one million singles. In 1971, it reached It later reached #8 on the UK singles chart. Neil Diamond Diamond revealed in 2007 that the real inspiration for his song was John F. Kennedy's daughter, Caroline, who was eleven years old at the time it was released. Ever since then the song has remained continuously popular, and by November 2014, there have been over 2 million digital downloads in the United States.

Neil Leslie Diamond is an American singer-songwriter, who holds distinction of having sold over 125 million records worldwide of his songs and is one of the world's best-selling music artists of all time

This week we feature a song "Moon River" that was first performed by the actress Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 unforgettable movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. It received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for first performance and in 1962 won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and the Song of the Year.

We also have here however, the version by Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1961.

The tears I shed were tears of joy!

The song, "Crying in the Chapel" was first recorded in the year 1953 and was already a hit, when Elvis Presley recorded it on October 30, 1960. It was released in April 1965.

It turned out to be the the greatest chart success for Presley over a six-year span. It hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and topping the Easy Listening chart for seven weeks. The single reached number one on the British charts in 1965 where it stayed for two weeks.The single was eventually certified "Platinum" by the RIAA for sales in excess of one million units in the US

Says a popular song “ Fools Rush in”, first written in 1940. This week we feature the song performed by Ricky Nelson. This version was an enormous hit, reaching #12 in the Billboard pop charts and would become the most famous version of this song. It had also featured in a film produced in 1963 with the title “Scorpio Rising.”

"I Fall to Pieces" is a single released by Patsy Cline (Virginia Patterson Hensley)( 1932 – 1963), an American singer. In 1961. This song was Cline's first #1 hit on the Country charts, and her second hit single to cross over onto the Pop charts. It has also been classified as a country music standard. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked it on number 238 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and CMT's television special ranked it at number 7 of the 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music.

This week's long forgotten track was once so much popular that it was considered as a genre classic for its gripping narrative. "El Paso" is a country and western ballad written and originally recorded by Marty Robbins, and first released in September 1959. It soon became a major hit on both the country and pop music charts, reaching number one in both at the start of 1960. It won the Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording in 1961, and remains Robbins' best-known song.

Remember the famous title song from the James Bond film, The Man with the Golden Gun? It was sung by a Scottish singer Lulu Kennedy, best known by her stage name Lulu. She has been an actress, and a television personality in 1960's.

This week, we have another one of her famous songs; "To Sir with Love," from a film of the same name. It was released as a single in the United States in 1967 and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the top position for five weeks and earning the No. 1 position for the entire year in the process.

This week's track will delight the hearts of the lovers of American Country Music.

The song, "King of the Road" was written and performed by country singer Roger Miller ( 1936-1992) in 1964. The lyrics narrate the day-to-day life of a vagabond,who despite being poor describs himself humorously as the "king of the road". The single hit No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on their Country and Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. The song has been re-recorded by many other singers including Dean Martin and has been used in many Hollywood feature films including recent Brokeback Mountain.

El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could) is an orchestral musical piece written in 1913, based on traditional Andean folk tunes of Peru by the Peruvian composer Daniel Alomía Robles. Simon & Garfunkel performed it in 1970 for their album “Bridge over Troubled Water” after adding some lyrics in English.

The song peaked at number of European and other charts such as Australian Kent Music Report,Austrian Singles Chart, Belgian Singles Chart, Dutch Singles Chart,

West German Singles Chart, Spanish Singles Chart, Swiss Singles Chart. It remained on 18^th position on US Billboard Hot 100 in 1970.

In 2004, Peru declared this song as part of the national cultural heritage.

This week we feature this song, performed by Stanley Robert "Bobby" Vinton, Jr., who is an American pop music singer of Polish and Lithuanian ethnic background. This became his most popular song. It peaked at No. 1 on the now renamed Billboard Pop Singles Chart. It also served as inspiration for the film of the same name.

Tammy Wynette (1942 – 1998) was an American country music singer-songwriter and one of country music's best-known artists and biggest-selling female singers. She was a country music icon.

This week, we have a song, "Stand by Your Man," originally recorded by Wynette and released as a single in the United States in September 1968. The song reached number one on the U.S. country charts in late 1968 for three weeks. It also crossed over to the U.S. pop charts, peaking at number nineteen.. It reached number one in the UK Singles Chart when the record was finally released in Britain in 1975, subsequently also reaching number one in the Netherlands.

This week, we have a 1961 song by Roy Orbison, famous for his song Oh, Pretty Woman, recorded in 1964.

“Crying” was released as a 45 rpm single by Monument Records in July 1961. It became #1 on the United States Cashbox chart for a week on October 7, 1961, and peaked at #2 on the rival Billboard Hot 100. In 2002, "Crying" was honored with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award.

Ray Charles Robinson (commonly known as Ray Charles; 1930 – 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and composer who is sometimes referred to as "The Genius.”

Ray Charles, a native of Georgia state of USA, recorded the song"Georgia on My Mind" in 1960. The song became a major hit, reaching the number one spot for one week in November 1960 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Ray Charles performed it before the Georgia General Assembly (the state legislature) on March 7, 1979, in a mutual symbol of reconciliation after conflict over civil rights issues. After this performance, the connection to the state was firmly made, and the Assembly adopted it as the state song on April 24.

"It's Not Unusual" is a song, first recorded by a singer who was then-unknown to the music world, Tom Jones. The song reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in 1965. It was also the first hit for Jones in the US, peaking at No. 10 in May of that year.

Tom Jones Jones later used this song as the theme for his television musical variety series This Is Tom Jones. It has since become Jones' signature song.

He recorded "Diana" in 1957 inspired by a high school friend of his named Diana Ayoub. It reached number one on the Billboard "Best Sellers In Stores" chart and sold over nine million copies. It hit number one on the R&B Best Sellers list chart and also reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart and sold 1.25 million copies in the UK.

Mungo Jerry is a British rock group that was highly successful in the early 1970's. This week we feature a song that is considered as their most successful and most instantly recognisable song.

"In the Summertime" celebrates the carefree days of summer. In 1970 it reached number one in charts around the world, including seven weeks in the UK Singles Chart, two weeks in Canada, and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the US. It is considered one of the best-selling singles of all time with an estimated 6 million copies sold.

The song's lyric "have a drink, have a drive, go out and see what you can find" was even used in a UK campaign against drink driving.
