During last two decades, at least 12 or 13 elections have taken place in which I was expected to vote. These elections were held for central or federal government, state government and the local municipality. Out of these, I remember only tow or three elections very distinctly. The first was the post emergency election of 1976, in which everyone wanted to vote against ruling congress party. The second election, which I remember clearly, was held when Late Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister of India. An air of optimism was prevalent then, as it was expected that Rajiv Gandhi would lead the nation in a new, uncharted direction. Subsequently this optimism had disappeared like a punctured balloon. But that is an another story.
